Meet the Team Led by Prof. Andrew Horne
“I have worked with endometriosis patients clinically and researched the condition for over 10 years. I am committed to improving the care of patients with endometriosis.” Andrew Horne, Professor of Gynaecology and Director of the Centre for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh.
As part of our Spotlight Series celebrating the teams driving the EUmetriosis project forward, we are excited to introduce the team led by Professor Andrew Horne which includes researchers at the University of Edinburgh and two researchers from Croatia (Magdalena Karadza and Adam Vrbanic). Together, they are working to build one of the most ambitious endometriosis research resources ever created, aiming to change the future of diagnosis and treatment for people living with this disease.
Andrew’s motivation for joining the EUmetriosis project is deeply rooted in his commitment to patients, he has spent over a decade working directly with patients and leading large-scale clinical research projects in endometriosis.
His team’s research is building a unique bioresource combining patient data, tracking, and biological samples. By analysing this data with AI and using advanced laboratory techniques, they aim to speed up diagnosis and develop more personalised treatments for endometriosis.
As Andrew highlights, this work is groundbreaking:
“This will be the first and largest bioresource ever created for endometriosis. We hope it will give patients and experts the tools they need to tackle the disease together.”
They hope to transform how endometriosis is understood and treated, making care more personalised and effective, and moving closer to an ultimate goal of a cure.
