Meet the EUmetriosis Team: University Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia

As part of our EUmetriosis Team Spotlight Series, we’re delighted to introduce the incredible team at the University Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb (KBC Zagreb), Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the Croatian National Reference Center for Endometriosis.

KBC Zagreb is home to the highest number of endometriosis patients in Croatia. The centre brings together experienced clinicians, surgeons, and researchers who are dedicated to fertility preservation and minimally invasive care. By participating in EUmetriosis, the team is raising national standards in patient care while strengthening Croatia’s ties to European research networks.

“Every day, we support patients facing chronic pain, infertility, and the heavy burden of endometriosis, yet many aspects of the disease remain poorly understood. Through EUmetriosis, we aim to advance scientific knowledge, improve patient care, and bring new hope to those living with this condition.”

Dr. Magdalena Karadža, M.D., Ph.D.

Head of the Reproductive Surgery Unit at KBC Zagreb, Dr. Karadža brings a unique dual subspecialty background in gynaecologic oncology and reproductive medicine. Today, her work focuses primarily on minimally invasive surgical treatment of endometriosis and fertility preservation.

Her evolution from oncology to reproductive surgery allows her to integrate surgical precision with fertility-focused care. Dr. Karadža’s international collaborations with leading experts such as Prof. Marie Madeleine Dolmans (Belgium) and Prof. Andrew Horne (UK) have further strengthened the clinic’s integration into the EUmetriosis consortium.

“My goal is to blend my oncologic surgery background with fertility-preserving endometriosis techniques – helping women maintain reproductive potential without compromising treatment efficacy.”

Dr. Adam Vrbanić, M.D.

As a young gynaecology specialist, Dr. Vrbanić approaches endometriosis treatment with ambition and dedication. His primary interest lies in minimally invasive surgical management, and within EUmetriosis, he contributes to patient recruitment, project coordination, and clinical research activities.

“This project allows me to combine my passion for surgery with research that can directly improve our patients’ lives. I am excited to see EUmetriosis push the boundaries of how we treat endometriosis in Croatia.”

Asst. Prof. Dr. Mario Ćorić, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Ćorić leads the Department of Gynaecological Surgery at KBC Zagreb and serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb. A national expert in the surgical management of deep pelvic endometriosis, he has trained at leading European centres and currently serves as President of the Croatian Society for Endometriosis.

He has spearheaded the development of surgical protocols and strengthened patient engagement through education and association work. Over the past decade, his leadership has significantly improved treatment outcomes in Croatia.

“Through EUmetriosis, we aim to integrate high-precision surgical data and real-world patient outcomes into European guidelines, improving care far beyond Croatia.”

Prof. Dr. Dinka Pavičić Baldani, M.D., Ph.D.

Prof. Pavičić Baldani is Head of the Assisted Reproduction Unit at KBC Zagreb and a full professor at the University of Zagreb. She holds a subspecialty in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and serves on the Executive Committee of ESHRE, as well as an accreditation assessor for EBCOG/ESHRE.

Her leadership extends beyond the clinic: she is President of the National Committee for Medically Assisted Reproduction at the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Croatian Association for Assisted Reproduction. Within EUmetriosis, she focuses on the intersection of endometriosis and fertility, bringing both scientific expertise and deep empathy for patients.

“Endometriosis poses a major challenge in fertility care due to its multifactorial impact. We believe that insights from EUmetriosis will help us improve treatment outcomes and support many couples in achieving parenthood.”

By combining clinical excellence, surgical innovation, and reproductive medicine expertise, the KBC Zagreb team is making significant strides in improving diagnosis, empowering patients, and advancing fertility outcomes for women with endometriosis.

Their involvement in EUmetriosis not only elevates care in Croatia but also contributes to a Europe-wide transformation in how this complex condition is understood and treated.
